A pocket guide for a meaningful Umrah
Umrah includes Ihram, Tawaf, Sa‘i and then shaving or trimming the hair. This page focuses on what you can say while performing these steps. Read the translation first; you can also make sincere personal duas in your own language.
Transliterations are reading aids and cannot reproduce every Arabic sound. If possible, learn the Arabic with a qualified teacher or reliable recitation.
Before you begin: an important clarification
There is no authentic fixed dua for each of the seven Tawaf rounds or each trip between Safa and Marwah. A short set of well-attested words is shown below; otherwise recite Qur’an, remember Allah or ask for what matters to you. The supplication at first sight of the Ka‘bah and a special dua for cutting hair are often shared, but should not be presented as required words for Umrah.
Enter Ihram and say the Talbiyah
Make your intention for Umrah before passing the relevant Miqat. You may express that intention by saying “Labbayka ‘umrah.” Then recite the Talbiyah regularly on the way to Makkah.
Ask for mercy when entering the mosque
Enter with respect and say the short supplication for entering a mosque. It applies at Masjid al-Haram too.
Say “Allahu Akbar” at the Black Stone
Begin each circuit at the Black Stone line. Face the stone, gesture towards it if you cannot reach it safely, and say the takbir. Continue moving without pushing other pilgrims.
Pray freely during Tawaf
Speak to Allah in your own words during the circuits. Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, this Qur’anic supplication is especially useful:
Two rak‘ahs and Zamzam
After seven circuits, pray two rak‘ahs where it is feasible, without obstructing others. Drink Zamzam and ask Allah for what you need. There is no single compulsory Zamzam dua.

Remember Allah and make dua during Sa‘i
Begin at Safa. The Qur’an describes Safa and Marwah as among Allah’s symbols. At Safa, and again at Marwah, face the Ka‘bah, praise Allah, say the takbir and make your personal duas. Walking from Safa to Marwah counts as one trip; returning counts as the second. Finish the seventh at Marwah.
Shave or trim your hair, and give thanks
After Sa‘i, men shave or trim their hair; women trim a small portion according to their guidance. This completes the Umrah rites. You can thank Allah and ask Him to accept your worship. No special wording is required at this moment.
Questions pilgrims often ask
Do I need seven different duas for seven Tawaf rounds?
No. You may remember Allah and make personal dua in any round. There is no fixed prayer assigned to each circuit.
Can I make dua in Urdu or English?
Yes, you may ask Allah for your needs in a language you understand. Learn the known Arabic remembrance where you can.
Is there a special dua at first sight of the Ka‘bah?
You may make personal dua. Avoid treating a particular phrase as a required or established formula for that moment.

You can recite “Rabbanā ātinā fi-d-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fi-l-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ‘adhāba-n-nār”—a prayer asking for good in this world and the Hereafter and protection from the Fire.
Is there a required dua when I first see the Ka‘bah?
No particular wording is required. You can use that moment to make sincere personal dua.
What should I recite during Sa’i between Safa and Marwah?
Remember Allah and make personal dua. At Safa and Marwah, you can face the Ka‘bah, praise Allah, say the takbir, and pray for your needs.
